Oklahoma City Thunder NBA Trade and Roster Rumors: Can the Thunder Sign Dwyane Wade?
The Oklahoma City Thunder have already pulled off two of the most shocking trades this offseason by acquiring Paul George from the Indiana Pacers and Carmelo Anthony from the New York Knicks. However, the team may not be done making moves and pundits believe they may make a push to sign Dwyane Wade.
The 12-time All-Star has just secured a buyout with the Chicago Bulls and he's now a free agent. According to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and Brian Windhorst, the Cleveland Cavaliers are the clear favorites to sign him. However, they also noted that the Thunder are in the mix as well.
The Thunder can only offer him a veteran's minimum contract worth $2.3 million, but there's a certain allure to joining a team that features his good friend, Anthony, All-Star wing Paul George, and reigning National Basketball Association (NBA) most valuable player Russell Westbrook.
"Have to wonder if OKC is now sitting on a Dwyane Wade buyout. Can't offer money, even starting role — but Russ, PG and Melo could sell hard," Yahoo Sports' Chris Mannix wrote in his tweet.
Sam Amico of Amico Hoops has also suggested that Wade may consider joining the Thunder.
"Wade supposedly has been leaning toward a reunion with Cleveland Cavaliers star LeBron James, his former teammate with the Miami Heat. But Wade is also tight with Anthony," Amico stated.
South Florida Sun Sentinel's Ira Winderman chimed in as well and he noted that a move to Oklahoma makes sense for Wade since he wants to play for a championship contender before he retires.
"Got to admit, Wade to OKC on a one-year rental if he gets a Bulls buyout does make sense from an opportunity standpoint," Winderman said.
Wade may have to come off the bench if he joins the Thunder, but that may not be an issue as long as he's on the floor down the stretch.
