ONE Campaign Creates New Web Site to Engage Millions

Continuing its unprecedented campaign reach, ONE: The Campaign to Make Poverty History launched a new site in fulfillment of an artist's wish to utilize technology for a broader reach.

The wide-reaching, celebrity-fueled ONE Campaign announced Tuesday the launch of a new website (www.one.org) to engage millions of Americans to beat global AIDS and extreme poverty.

Continuing its unprecedented campaign reach, ONE: The Campaign to Make Poverty History, whose partners include a line-up of large Christian organizations, launched the new site in fulfillment of an artist's wish to utilize technology for a broader reach.

"For the first time in history, we have the ability to beat global AIDS and extreme poverty, all we need is the will to do it," said ONE CEO Paul Dioguardi in a released statement. "These leaders are using their time and technology to reach millions of Americans with a call to do even more to save lives in Africa and the world's poorest countries."

U2 Lead Singer Bono announced his wish as he received the inaugural 2004 TED (Technology Entertainment and Design) prize, hoping technology leaders would step forward to help engage more than one million Americans in the fight against the growing pandemic and poverty.

A volunteer team of industry leaders from Microsoft, Adobe, Metaliq and Akamai conceptualized, designed, and developed the new site that features streaming technology for the campaign's new ONE "Click Spot" video.

The new website, which also features some of the biggest names in music and Hollywood, follows a protest march organized by Treatment Action Campaign in Cape Town, South Africa. The Sunday march drew HIV/AIDS activists to help make community-driven HIV prevention work to prevent two million new infections by 2010 in the country, which has one of the world's highest infection rates.

HIV/AIDS infects 8,500 people along with at least 1,400 newborn babies and kills 6,600 everyday in Africa. Over 1 billion people live on less than $1 a day.

The ONE Campaign is a coalition of 2 million people and over 70 of the nation's leading relief, humanitarian and advocacy organizations, including World Vision, Bread for the World and Habitat for Humanity. Its website is used to engage and mobilize visitors to call for life-saving global commitments for Africa and the world's poorest country 100 percent debt cancellation, increased effective international assistance and universal access to education and HIV/AIDS medicines.
