OnePlus 2 to Be Launched July 27, Will Cost Less Than $450
After the success of its first flagship smartphone, the OnePlus One in April 2014, the technology startup company behind the device is bringing its second-generation flagship phone, the OnePlus Two on July 27. The new phone will have several improvements compared to the first flagship and will cost less than $450.
The OnePlus One was the pride of the company and was called "the flagship killer" because of its powerful specifications and low price points. The 16GB variant was only selling for $299 while the 64 GB one was priced at $349. The OnePlus Two was originally rumored to be priced at more than $500 because of its high-end specs but the company recently revealed that it will not be priced more than $450.
The company allayed fears about the high price by posting on Google Plus.
"I can promise that the OnePlus 2 will be priced under $450," OnePlus CEO Pete Lau said. "Honestly, it's never been about the price. We simply make the best smartphones we can, and we go from there."
Earlier reports said that the OnePlus 2 will definitely cost higher than $322, pegging the new phone's price range from $322 to $450.
Not much is known about the new phone though except for those specs confirmed by the company itself. These included the phone's OS which will be OxygenOS, which is based on the Android Lollipop 5.1. It will also sport a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor whose overheating issues have been addressed. It will also be the first flagship to have a USB Type-C port, and will have a fingerprint scanner that is easier to use than that of Apple's.
The phone will be launched via a virtual reality event on July 27, the first of its kind in terms of product launches. The launch will happen at 7 p.m. Pacific Time or 10 p.m. Eastern Time, and can be watched by anybody who is online during that time.
