OnePlus 2 Unveiled, Invite Needed to Purchase

Using a virtual reality app, the company behind the newest smartphone the OnePlus 2 unveiled their new flagship device. The new phone is said to the next generation version of the OnePlus One smartphone.

According to a Tech Times report, the new device is also called the "flagship killer" primarily because its specifications compare to the latest flagship devices that have been released by more prominent companies but with a very affordable price.

The new phone is essentially an upgraded or a better version of the OnePlus One phone. Design-wise, it is similar to its predecessor. Under the hood is another matter. It features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 64-bit processor, which is currently Qualcomm's flagship. This is a big jump from the Snapdragon 801 in the OnePlus One. The new phone also has 4 GB of RAM to boot, to match the powerful processor, for faster response and performance.

It also has a bigger battery, at 3,300 mAh, compared to only 3,100 mAh in the older model. Display-wise, it still has the same 1080 pixel resolution display, but a bigger battery with the same display means that the battery can last longer.

The phone's camera is a 13 megapixel one, now equipped with optical image stabilization or OIS, which is said to reduce blurriness. Another camera upgrade is the low-light sensor which allows the camera to take photos better in low-light conditions.

Given that the new phone now has a USB-C port, which is the new USB standard, data transfer is supposed to be faster, but is dependent on the computer or the device involved in the data transfer. The new phone does not have a micro-USB port.

OnePlus 2 runs on an Android OS variant developed by the company, which is based on Android 5.1 and is called OxygenOS. Its predecessor ran on CyanogenMod.

It is on sale for only $389, which is considered a steal for a phone with its high-end specifications. There is a lower-cost version that is coming out later in the year. Buyers however need to get an invite before they can purchase the new phone. And they can do this by going to the OnePlus website to find out how they can get one.
