OnePlus 5 vs. Apple iPhone 8 Specs: Which Flagship Is the One to Beat?

One of the smartphone flagships expected to dominate the mobile space is the Apple iPhone 8, but it will not go unchallenged with the so-called flagship killer OnePlus 5 set to arrive this year as well.

Although none of the devices have been made official yet, there are already a lot of details on their specifications and features enough to make a comparison of the two.

According to the latest information about the iPhone 8 courtesy of JPMorgan analyst Rod Hall, Apple's next-generation offering will come with an "edge-to-edge" organic light-emitting diode (OLED) screen, which, although it will be 5.85 inches in size, will look and feel 5.5 inches.

This means that the Cupertino giant will finally update the design of its smartphone line. Those who like their smartphone with a curved screen should go for the iPhone 8.

This is because the OnePlus 5 is rumored to get a flat display with the upgrade from its predecessor in the form of a resolution bump to quad high-definition (QHD).

More on the design, the iPhone 8 and the OnePlus 5 are both expected to get an all-glass chassis, which should give both flagships a premium look and feel.

The OnePlus 5, however, has a lot to offer in the imaging department. Rumor has it that it will sport a dual camera setup with Alphr expecting a major upgrade on the megapixels.

The iPhone 8 will not be left behind as the Apple handset will boast a "structured-light-augmented" main camera, which will give users the ability to refocus the image after it is taken, as per Hall.

Morgan Stanley analyst Charlie Chan added in his research notes that the smartphone will also boast a 3D-sensing camera on the front, with Hall claiming it will have 3D facial recognition features and 3D camera effects.

Under the hood, the OnePlus 5 is expected to make use of Qualcomm's latest and most powerful processor, the Snapdragon 835, while the iPhone 8 is said to gain its power from Apple's next-gen in-house chipset, the A11.

As for the pricing, users who do not want to break the bank for a good flagship will likely go for the OnePlus 5, which is rumored to be priced around $570. The iPhone 8, according to Hall, will be far more expensive at $1,000.
