OnePlus 6 Rumors: Handset Coming Earlier Than Expected but at the Expense of Another

The next mobile offering to expect from OnePlus could very well be the OnePlus 6.

This is according to a report by Android Marvel, who claims that the company ditched the OnePlus 5T that was long rumored to be released later this year.

As a result, the OnePlus 6 outing was reportedly advanced to early 2018, which means that it could be out and about by January being the earliest and March as the latest. This is much earlier than expected since its predecessor was only released last June.

OnePlus is not one to set a definite release pattern for its offerings unlike Samsung or Apple. This was definitely the case when it came out with the OnePlus 3T only six months after the release of the standard version.

With the release of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 shortly after they launched the Snapdragon 820-powered OnePlus 3, the company may have felt compelled to launch an upgrade since the competition was using the newer processor.

However, there is no new Snapdragon chipset coming out this year. The next one, which is the Snapdragon 845 processor, is not expected to land until early next year.

With this in mind, there are really no new features that OnePlus can take advantage of to justify the release of a OnePlus 5T model since it already has a dual camera setup, as per GSM Arena. A bezel-less variant would be reasonable but it is looking like the company is saving this feature for the full-on successor instead.

The cancelation of the OnePlus FT, however, could help the OnePlus 6 gain advantage by being among the first devices to boast the Snapdragon 845 processor, which is the system on chip (SoC) that flagships will be donning in 2018.

With the OnePlus 5T out of the picture, the company is also able to unlock extra time to work on the OnePlus 6, which is now expected to sport an all-screen front panel to keep up. But it will need more than that.

With the Samsung Galaxy S9 also slated for early next year and the Apple iPhone X supply coming in around that time too, OnePlus 6 will have serious competition so it is a good thing the tech firm has additional time to use.
