Earlier this year, Opera rolled out a mobile browser for iOS and Android with free VPN. The company is doing the same for desktop browsers, installing a VPN with it that runs undetected in the background. According to PC World, the Opera VPN uses a 256-bit AES encrypted connection which enables users access to content that may be limited in their country.

Opera 40 Desktop Browser VPN Features

Opera desktop browser VPN is free, but it offers premium features for those who will install it. The company detailed on their website that the Opera 40 has an automatic battery-saving feature that turns on automatically when using a laptop without charging it. Users may also track their laptop's battery life in an interface that is incorporated on the browser.

Opera 40 also offers Chromecast support. It works by downloading and installing the Chrome extension on to the Opera VPN desktop browser. However, Chromecast currently only works for YouTube videos.
Users may enjoy their videos more fully with the video pop-out feature of the Opera 40 as it supports major sites and players. Turning it off is made simpler with only a click of the mouse. Opera also added the Newsreader with RSS Support on the Opera 40 VPN browser.

Opera 40 Desktop Browser VPN Fallbacks?

Opera states that the VPN in their Opera 40 desktop browser is free and unlimited, however, Tech Crunch noted that it is only available in five different locations.

A VPN is primarily used for protection and privacy, but concerns of the latter were raised by PC World in their report which pointed out that Opera was recently purchased by a Chinese consortium. Opera stated that the service is provided by a Canadian company called SurfEasy Inc. which strongly adheres to the country's privacy laws, PC World also noted. Furthermore, Opera's VPN feature operates without any logging in which means that no data is being collected.

How to Install the Opera 40 Desktop Browser VPN

Download the Opera browser from the official website. To enable the VPN, go to "Settings" then to "Privacy & Security" and then check free VPN. The VPN service is running when an icon "VPN" is seen on the browser.
