"Women deserve factual information regarding their pregnancy. There are significant health risks with abortion, and at the very least they have a right to know the truth regarding this risky procedure from professionals who will not benefit financially from their decision. They also need to know there are positive alternatives for them and their babies," says Conroy in a statement released Thursday.

The program's purpose is to make ultrasound machines and sonography training available to medical clinics that meet the professional requirements.

Recent statistical reports by Focus on the Family have shown that the program is making a difference. The organization found that 84 percent of pregnancy resource center clients considering abortion have decided to carry their babies to term after viewing an ultrasound image of the baby inside them.

"Women have been fed a lie by abortionists," Conroy said. "Those who are considering an abortion need to know the emotional and physical toll this procedure could have on them – and they deserve the chance to see their baby face to face before they make this life-changing decision."

Option Ultrasound began in February 2004, and has a goal of placing 650 services by the year 2010.
