Oprah Attacked With Racist Epithets by 'Color Purple' Co-Star Rae Dawn Chong
Oprah Winfrey's former "Color Purple" co-star made racial, offensive remarks about the talk show host on Thursday, using the n-word to describe what her status should be.
Actress Rae Dawn Chong accused Oprah on Matty P's Radio "Happy Hour" of being overly competitive and jealous of Chong's success. The two women first became acquainted in the 1980s, but according to Chong, their relationship went downhill quickly after Chong acquired a second movie part.
"I starred in Commando. And she just wasn't having me. She's competitive. She didn't like me. She just wasn't having me," the actress said.
The actress also dropped a slew of racial remarks that many found offensive, according to TMZ.
"If you look at the way [Oprah] looks, she looks like 60 years ago she would have been a house keeper luckily. She would have not been a house n----- she would have been a field n-----," Chong was quoted.
Other parts of Oprah's personal life were also dredged up earlier this week. Some reports recalled a story two years ago about a half-sister that the talk show host had not known about. The star's previous pregnancy when she was only 14 also came up. Chong joined in the attack on Oprah by suggesting during the radio interview that the talk show host still had insecurities over her appearance.
"Shes so enormously insecure. If you wanna distill Oprah Winfrey down to like her most basic components. She wants to be beautiful," Chong said. "Imagine being [Oprah]. She has all of the world. All the power in the world ... and she only wants something that is only chemical, purely impossible."
In response to the article, users accused Chong of being "bitter" and "mean." Earlier this year Forbes magazine announced that Oprah had once again topped the list of "Most Influential Celebrity." She had made the list several times before, and remains one of the richest women in the world.
