'Orange is the New Black' Season 3 Returns June 12: Drama Brewing Between Piper and Alex?

Netflix's original comedy series "Orange is the New Black" is said to return for another season on June 12, 2015. This is the show's third season. In 2014, it was nominated for 12 Primetime Emmy Awards. It also won several awards such as the Peabody Awards and the People's Choice Award for Favorite Streaming Series.

While there are clearly some characters who will no longer be returning in the next season, such as Piper's ex-fiancee Larry Bloom (Jason Biggs) and some of the correction officers – Natalie "Fig the Embezzler" Figueroa and George "Pornstache" Mendez -- reports of new cast members have been revealed. Mike Birbiglia of "The Fault in Our Stars," Mary Steenburgen of "Justified" and Blair Brown of "Fringe" were said to have signed on but the show's creator is mum about what characters they will play.

Both Taylor Schilling and Laura Prepon are returning to Season 3 to reprise their roles, with Prepon back a main rather than a recurring character this season, according to Cinema Blend.

According to International Business Times, Ruby Rose, a 28-year old Australian actress, has been added to the cast and it says that she will play a new inmate Stella Carlin, "whose sarcastic sense of humor and captivating looks quick draw the attentions of some of Litchfield's inmates." She may cause additional tension between Piper and Laura.

Other interesting characters in the series include prison guard John Bennett, played by Matt McGorry and Dayanara Diaz played by Dascha Polanco. Both are keeping a secret together – Daya is pregnant with Bennett's child. Daya's character will be returning as a main character in season 3, and in one report, McGorry himself teased that the next season may delve into his character's back story a little bit.

"There is a moment in one of the episodes in Season 3 that was definitely my most creatively fulfilling episode," he told WetPaint. "It felt like it really rounded out the character and helped us understand a little bit more about where Bennett comes from."

The series' main characters are Piper Chapman, played by Taylor Schilling and Alex Vause, played by Laura Prepon. Piper finds herself in federal prison after being found guilty of transporting a suitcase full of drug money to her former girlfriend, Alex, who turns out to be an international drug mule. The first season revolved around Piper's adjustment to life in prison. She once again meets Alex in prison which she had a hand in doing. Both need to deal with their relationship while dealing with their prison mates.
