'Orange Is the New Black' Season 4 Spoilers: Dascha Polanco Talks About Daya and Expectations for the Next Season
With lots of time to prepare for season 4 of the critically acclaimed Netflix show "Orange Is the New Black," Dascha Polanco, who plays Daya, has spoken up about how she feels after last season's painful blow on her character's personal life.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Polanco was asked if she wants to see Officer Bennett (Matt McGorry) and Daya patch things up in the upcoming installment. The 32-year-old actress said she actually would like to see the reunion of one of the most loved couples in the show, but there are things that need to be considered.
"He walked out of her life and her main priority now is figuring out how she can take care of her child," she said, adding that despite her desire to see her character and the sweet officer get back together, "you have to be realistic."
When asked how she reacted after she found out that Bennett and Daya weren't going to make the relationship work at the end of season 3, she said she was sad when she received and read the script. On the other hand, she said she was really proud of Bennett and how he stood up to do the right thing, ending Daya's seemingly fairytale life behind bars.
During the interview, Polanco noted that she's looking forward to a much stronger and "reactive" Daya in the upcoming season. She recalled how Daya was not so reactive to the extreme situations she fell into in season 3. So in the upcoming season, she said a grown-up is what she's looking forward to see in her character, one who doesn't worry much about her mother.
Finally, Polanco hinted that the next season might not reunite Daya and her daughter. She said she's not sure what the showrunners are planning for Daya and her child but she noted that "When you're in jail, you have no control over your situation." She also said everything will now be much difficult for Daya, especially since her breakup with Officer Bennett.
"Orange Is the New Black" is expected to premiere in the middle of 2016.
