'Orange Is the New Black' Season 5 Premiere Set for June; Plot Covers Three-Day Timeline

The fourth season of Netflix's prison drama "Orange Is the New Black" ended with a cliffhanger and it has been keeping its viewers on the edge of their seats until now, wondering what will happen next once the series returns for its fifth season this June.

Fans may recall that in season 4 of the series, fan favorite Poussey (Samira Wiley) met her demise during a protest after she was accidentally suffocated by Bayley (Alan Aisenberg). The officials attempted to cover up what happened and this prompted the inmates to join forces and stage a riot.

Amid the chaos, officer Humphrey (Michael Torpey) took out an unauthorized gun to use against the prisoners. The gun was knocked out of his hands and Daya (Dascha Polanco) was the one who managed to pick it up. The season finale episode concluded with Daya pointing the gun at Humphrey's head.

To announce and promote the upcoming arrival of "Orange Is the New Black" season 5, Netflix released a 15-second teaser last January and it shows glimpses of several of the show's characters. It ends with Daya pointing a gun at the camera.

In an interview with E! Online last January, "Orange Is the New Black" actress Danielle Brooks revealed that season 5 will begin after the events of the cliffhanger in season 4. She also teased that there are many intense scenes that might make the viewers cry.

"Season five is done over the course of three days. You will watch 13 episodes, and find out what happens in the course of three days. So, it will be very detailed, very intense, and you better get ready. Get your popcorn, your tissues, everything," Brooks said.

Returning cast members for "Orange Is the New Black" season 5 include Taylor Schilling, Kate Mulgrew, Uzo Aduba, Michael Harney and Laura Prepon. It was also reported that Michelle Hurst and Lori Petty will be returning to the show this coming season to reprise their roles.

"Orange Is the New Black" season 5 is set to premiere on June 9 on Netflix.
