Oscar De La Hoya News: 'The Golden Boy' explains "open letter" to Mayweather, still wants to support Ronda Rousey's boxing run

Six-division world boxing champion Oscar De La Hoya has explained how his open letter to Floyd Mayweather came about. He also reiterated his intent to help out former UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey, should she decide to make a boxing run.

Early this month, "The Golden Boy" wrote an open letter to Mayweather for Playboy Magazine, which was set to come out on the publication's December issue. In the said letter, De La Hoya was highly critical of Mayweather's fighting style.

"Truth be told, I'm not unhappy to see you retire. Neither are a lot of boxing fans. Scratch that. MOST boxing fans. Why? Because the fight game will be a better one without you in it. Let's face it: You were boring," an excerpt of the letter reads.

In a report by Steve Kim for Boxingscene.com, De La Hoya went on to explain how this letter came about, during a recent episode of Mario Lopez's 'Three Knockdown Rule' podcast.

"So I'm sitting down after watching '8 Mile', Eminem right? So I'm watching the movie and at the end he has to rap against the guy who's the top rapper. He's like the top dog and he's like thinking,' what should I rap about? This guys it.' So he raps about himself and he smashes himself."

"I did not bash his character, not one bit whatsoever," he added. "But what does he do to retaliate with me - he bashes my character. I mean, I didn't do that."

Meanwhile, De La Hoya also reiterated his intention to support Ronda Rousey's boxing run, if the former UFC bantamweight champion decides to do so.

In another Boxingscene report, De La Hoya says Rousey can make noise if she does decide to go towards that direction, adding he will be supporting her all the way.

"Of course, if she still has the desire of coming to boxing - then we are right here waiting for her with arms wide open."
