'Osomatsu-san' Season 2 Air Date, Spoilers: Matsuno Sextuplets to Stir Up More Fun in October

The Matsuno brothers are back for yet another season of adult-oriented humor and made up lives on the second season of the Japanese comedy anime series, "Osomatsu-san (Mr. Osomatsu)."

Osomatsu, the titular character, is only one part of the Matsuno sextuplets, which also consists of Karamatsu, Choromatsu, Ichimatsu, Jyushimatsu, and Todomatsu. And since he is the oldest, Osomatsu is also the group's self-proclaimed leader. However, he may also at times be the most immature and self-centered of them all, which never fails to grate on his brothers' nerves.

The sextuplets are based on their much younger selves that appeared in the original 1962 manga series, "Osomatsu-kun," which was created by Fujio Akatsuka.

The anime adaptation was first shown in 2015 in celebration of Akatsuka's 80th birthday. The series now features the Matsuno sextuplets as adults who may have developed their own unique personalities, but have unfortunately also grown up into a bunch of lazy NEETs (Not in Education, Employment or Training).

The first season, which aired from October 2015 to March 2016, reportedly sold 120,000 copies of its volume 1 DVD release. The said season was so popular that it even ended up being nominated for the 2016 Ryukogo Taisho awards, which commemorates the most popular buzzword or trending words and phrases in the said year.

And just like before, the second season will follow Osomatsu and the rest of the Matsuno sextuplets as they live through each day, while also occasionally making up imaginary lives. The upcoming season has been licensed by Viz Media for distribution in North, Central, and South America.

A manga adaptation created by Masako Shitaro has also begun serialization in Shueisha's You magazine since 2016 and has already been released in three collected volumes.

"Osomatsu-san" premieres on Monday, Oct. 2, late night at 1:35 a.m. JST on TV Tokyo and TV Aichi. It will also air on TV Osaka beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 3, late night at 2:05 a.m. JST and on AT-X on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 10:30 p.m. JST. Information on other broadcast schedules and online resources can be found on the series' official site.
