In the first game, Montreal fought back after being down in the first period to score four goals in the second frame to eventually beat the Senators 4-3. In the second, Ottawa got to another early lead thanks to a goal in the first period. However, they allowed Montreal to get the lead in the second behind goals from Max Pacioretty and P.K. Subban. However, the Senators had an answer this time as Patrick Wiercioch scored with less than 10 minutes left in regulation to send the game into overtime. When the extra period came, it took only less than four mintes for Alex Galchenyuk to score the game winner and give Montreal a 2-0 series lead.
Ottawa desperately needed a win as the scene shifted to Ontario and they played as hosts. Once again they drew first blood with Clarke MacArthur scoring in the first period but Montreal showed grit as Dale Weise scored in the 55th minute to send the game into overtime. When the extra period began, Weise played the hero as he scored another wrister to give Montreal the win and take a commanding 3-0 series lead.
