'Outlander' Season 2 Cast Rumors: Who Will Play Lord John Grey?

With the first draft of the finale episode already written, it won't be long now before the much-awaited second season of American-British period drama "Outlander" is here. Previous reports have stated that the new season is set to premiere at some point in the spring.

TVLine has decided to spend the waiting period puzzling out the possible casting choices for the role of Lord John Grey. The character, as fans of the "Outlander" series by American author Diana Gabaldon know, plays an important role in the lives of Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe).

In 2015, it was confirmed that Oscar Kennedy (of the movie "Toast" and the television series "Hunted") had been cast as the young Lord John William Grey. In the Gabaldon books, the little Lord Grey accidentally comes upon Jamie and Claire and mistakenly assumes that the young woman is being abducted by the Highland warrior. This scenario is expected to play out at some point in Season 2 of the time-travel/romance series.

But this interaction won't be the last for Claire, Jamie, and Master Grey. In the third book of the "Outlander" series, "Voyager," Grey re-appears as the governor of a prison in which Jamie is an inmate. At this point in the series, Grey is described as a 26-year-old fine-boned man with fair complexion, blonde hair, and long lashes.

Given this description, TVLine has come up with a list of actors who may fit the part. Included in the roster are "Harry Potter" actor Tom Felton, Rupert Friend of "Homeland," Charlie Hunnam of "Sons of Anarchy," and "Lewis" actor Laurence Fox.

The website also suggests Ryan Kwanten of "True Blood," whose boyish features fit the physical description of Lord Grey, and "Sleepy Hollow" actor Tom Milson, whose British accent and experience in period pieces also fit the bill. The regal bearing of Dan Stevens ("Downton Abbey") suits the character, as does the sex appeal of "Smallville" alum Alan Ritchson.

The extensive list of actors who could play Lord John Grey should give "Outlander" fans something to chew on as they await official news of this casting.

"Outlander" Season 2 will premiere sometime in the spring.
