Over 1,700 'Values Voters' Turn Out For Washington Briefing
WASHINGTON – Four of the most influential conservative Christian organizations held hands with Republican politicians and speakers to rally Christian voters to the polls ahead of this November’s midterm elections.
According to organizers, over 1,700 turned out this past weekend for the “Washington Briefing: Values Voters Summit” – an event that has been planned for nearly a year.
Although the vast majority of political speakers were Republican, organizers took pains to emphasize that the summit “was not an opportunity for us to endorse candidates but rather an opportunity for candidates to endorse us and our values.”

These values included the preservation of life by opposing legalized abortion, stem-cell research and cloning, as well as the preservation of family by protecting the traditional definition of a man-woman marriage. Speakers highlighted the last point emphatically, arguing that the recognition of same-sex “marriage” could go so far as to limit their free speech, and lamenting that opposition to same-sex marriage has lost some of its steam.
“That is an issue that wasn’t around two years ago and one that is absolutely moving to the very forefront,” said the Rev. Donald Wildmon, founder of the American Family Association, a conservative Christian broadcaster and advocacy group.
The Family Research Council, Focus on the Family, American Family Association, and Americans United to Preserve Marriage jointly organized the Washington Briefing. The line-up of speakers included Senators George Allen, Sam Brownback, and Rick Santorum, as well as Newt Gingrich and Jerry Falwell.
