Over 2.1 Million PS4 Units Sold Since Launch Day, Sony Confirms
Sony has sold over 2.1 million PlayStation 4's since the console launched on November 15.
"It's an impressive and record-setting accomplishment for our company and for our industry, and we couldn't have done it without you," Andrew House, Sony Computer Entertainment president and CEO wrote on the PlayStation Blog. "I want to personally thank PlayStation fans, both old and new, for your vote of confidence. The best part: the PS4 journey has just begun. In addition to an incredible lineup of PS4 games from the best developers in the world, we will continue to introduce valuable new features and services to PS4 in the months and years ahead."
The console has launched in 32 countries all over the world with their initial one million sold in 24 hours taking place solely in North America.
"PS4 has sold through over 1 million units with the 24 hours of the launch in North America!!! :D," Sony President of Worldwide Studios, Shuhei Yoshida announced on Twitter two weeks ago.
PlayStation 4 was just named the quickest selling console of all-time in the UK, selling over 250,000 units in just 48 hours.
Telegraph reports that the PS4 beat previous sales records set by the PSP and Xbox One. Microsoft had sold over 150,000 consoles in the first 48 hours of their launch.
The PS4 arrived in the UK on November 29, two weeks after it was released in America, where it sold over a million in 24 hours. Eight years ago, the PSP sold over 180,000 in its first 48 hours in the UK. Sony broke their own record and retains the title.
The console launched with Killzone Shadow Fall "The Shadow Pack," Call of Duty: Ghosts "Free Fall Map," Call of Duty: Ghosts Digital Hardened Edition "Free Fall Map," Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag "Exclusive Aveline Figurehead," Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag Gold Edition "Exclusive Aveline Figurehead," and Battlefield 4 "China Rising Expansion."
