Overcoming Self-Doubt in a Job Search

After being laid off it's easy to succumb to self-doubt about being able to find a new job.You may think you don't have what it takes to run a successful job search campaign, so you give into feelings of inadequacy and just don't even try.

Well, you've done it again-fallen into self-doubt. Here are two tips to remember when you start to slide down the slippery slope of self-doubt.

1. Resist the urge to magnify your shortcomings. All of us have enough of them to last a lifetime. There's no need to make a big deal over them. When you focus on your shortcomings, you'll be unable to see the value you can add to a prospective employer.

2. Don't trust your feelings. Self-doubt leads to mood swings and low feelings. You wake up in the morning confident that you will land the job you want, and by dinner time you're down in the dumps over the rejection you experienced throughout the day.

Self-doubt will have you re-playing mistakes over and over again in your mind until if you're not careful what you fear actually happens. Snap out of it! If you want your job search to be successful, you MUST overcome self-doubt.
