'Overwatch' Characters News and Updates: Orisa Goes Live Next Week

The newest "Overwatch" playable character, Orisa, is going live next week.

Orisa is going to be the 24th character in the game, and the third released since "Overwatch" was launched following Ana and Sombra. Orisa will arrive on the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 on Tuesday, March 21.

Since being announced, Orisa has been described by developers as an "anchor tank." As for her history and background, she was created by Efi Oladele, an 11-year-old robotics engineering genius and was designed as a peace-loving, four-legged robot.

According to Blizzard, Efi created Orisa out of metal scraps from Numbani's (Efi's hometown) decommissioned OR15 defense bot, which she bought out of the grant money that was awarded to her for her contributions in robotics and artificial intelligence.

Being technically the youngest robot among the bunch, Blizzard explained that Orisa is still learning how to maximize her abilities. However, Efi successfully created her with a clear orientation of protecting Numbani from any form of harm, thus doing the same for her team. As Blizzard said, "What she lacks in experience, she makes up for in her steadfast dedication to keeping her city—and her creator—safe from harm."

In line with Orisa's protective nature, as previously teased by developers, the sixth tank character in "Overwatch" will act as a "central anchor" and will make use of her protective barrier to defend her team.

According to a previous report from Kotaku, "Overwatch" lead writer Michael Chu said (in a recently concluded Game Developers Conference session) that Orisa is an offspring of game design and explained how they conceptualized Orisa: "We wanted to have what we called an anchor tank: an alternative to Reinhardt. On the art side, our assistant art director wanted to explore new things. He really wanted to push the boundaries of what an 'Overwatch' hero could look like."

As for Orisa's abilities, her main weapon is the Fusion Driver which is an "automatic projectile cannon" that causes enough damage to the enemies. The downside is it slows down Orisa's movement when she launches to fire the weapon.

On the other hand, Orisa has an alternative firepower called Halt that fires a graviton charge in several directions of the map. Enemies that get caught by it will move slowly, while also gravitating toward the weapon just before it explodes.
