'Overwatch' Map Editor Not Coming Soon, But Is Considered in the Future

Blizzard Entertainment is arguably one of the big gaming companies out there that care about the long-term success of each of its titles. With the team-based multiplayer first-person shooter platform "Overwatch," the same is true as they take the gamers' suggestion in consideration, but are tackling them realistically.

The preset maps in the game are entertaining and stimulating, but veteran players would sometimes require a unique challenge that is created by them. As such, the option of having a map editor comes in discussion, and this is something Blizzard is taking into account.

Game director Jeff Kaplan says in a forum that they have this planned in the long run. Given the limitations and time constraints, however, it may take longer than usual.

"We are extremely open-minded about releasing a map editor for 'Overwatch' someday," Kaplan points out. "But because 'Overwatch' was made with a brand new engine, this is not a small task or one which can happen any time soon."

That being said, it doesn't sound like a bad thing at all. The developers have been painstakingly introducing elements time after time, enriching the gaming experience and creating a whole new view of the title. It can be recalled that the supposed event-only mode "Capture the Rooster" became a permanent mode dubbed "Capture the Flag," and this is based from player reception.

As far as new content is concerned, the latest patch adds more improvement to the gameplay, including bug fixes, hero balances and tweaks. It was also the time that the new tank, Orisa, was introduced to the fray, adding to the many options the players have.

Given this insight, the makers of "Overwatch" are taking things in stride while carefully calculating how the gamers are going to receive it. If anything, their actions seem to benefit their customers, and should be celebrated.
