New 'Overwatch' Map Eichenwalde Now Playable on PTR

The new "Overwatch" map, Eichenwalde, was recently revealed in Gamescom 2016 several days ago.

The new season of "Overwatch" is scheduled to begin in early September. Eichenwalde will soon be playable live as it can only be played in the public test region (PTR) of the game for now. Those who want to test the map may do so there.

"Overwatch" game director Jeff Kaplan wrote on the Battle.net forums that the Eichenwalde map is now available for testing on the PTR. Players and teams may use the Eichenwalde map for Quick Play and Competitive rotations.

PC Gamer notes that the "Overwatch" team has activated the Weekly Brawl which can only happen in the new map to ensure that players can see it. As usual, private custom games can be created so players can get an immersive or private feel of the map instead of actively shooting at other players. Furthermore, the two added skins for Reinhardt may also be tested on the PTR as well.

"Dark Souls" Easter Egg on Eichenwalde Map

Eagle-eyed "Overwatch" fans who have been testing the new Eichenwalde map were able to spot some Easter Eggs from the "Dark Souls" franchise. Game Rant reports that the "Dark Souls" Easter Egg can be found on the castle entrance of the map. A bonfire that looks similar to the save points that are in "Dark Souls" can be found there.

This isn't the first time Blizzard goes out of their way to put various Easter Eggs in "Overwatch" or in some of their games. In this particular map, there is another Easter Egg from "Diablo" where the horns of a demon can be found hanging in one of the walls of a villager's home. Since Eichenwalde is just newly released, fans expect that these aren't the only Easter Eggs that Blizzard has put in the map.

Furthermore, players are convinced that Blizzard has put hidden references of a rumored "Overwatch" hidden character named Sombra in the new map. If not in Eichenwalde, Sombra might be in the future maps; unless the company confirms or denies that Sombra really is a hidden "Overwatch" hero. There will be more future maps in "Overwatch" made by Blizzard. According to the outlet, all the DLC maps and new characters will continue to be free on PC, PS4 and Xbox One.
