'Overwatch' Orisa Release Date News: Blizzard Reveals New Details on Game's Newest Hero

Blizzard Entertainment has announced that the next hero coming to "Overwatch" is the tank class guardian robot Orisa, who is deemed "the city's newest protector."

Described by the studio as the central anchor of her team, the new character is all about safety and so her primary mission is to defend her teammates using her protective barrier.

"She can attack from long range, fortify her own defenses, launch graviton charges to slow and move enemies, and deploy a Supercharger to boost the damage output of multiple allies at once," her "Overwatch" profile reads.

Blizzard is yet to reveal the release date for Orisa, but it does help fans get by the long wait by providing more information about the new hero.

Lead writer Michael Chu revealed during Game Developers Conference 2017 via Kotaku how the team came up with Orisa, whose arrival in "Overwatch" bumps up the roster to 24.

"We wanted to have what we called an anchor tank: an alternative to Reinhardt. On the art side, our assistant art director wanted to explore new things. He really wanted to push the boundaries of what an Overwatch hero could look like," he explained.

It turns out that Efi is one of the inspirations in the creation of Orisa. Despite this, however, building the upcoming "Overwatch" hero was still no easy task.

"So what if we could perceive Orisa and the world around her through Efi's eyes and, by association, learn more about the world that way? Orisa as we know her was born. We had this new character learning about her place in the world. She was learning how to be a hero," Chu went on to explain.

The new "Overwatch" character's primary weapon is the automatic projectile cannon called the Fusion Driver, which sustains damage but slows her movement.

Orisa can also deploy a Supercharger device that will increase damage inflicted by allies within her line of sight. She can also reduce the damage she takes without suffering action-impairing effects.

The highly anticipated "Overwatch" newcomer can also launch a graviton charge that will slow the enemies and pull them to the explosion. Fans can read more about Orisa here.
