'Pacific Rim: Uprising' Director on Possible Crossover With Legendary's MonterVerse

Legendary Entertainment has a lot of monster movies coming up, and some are wondering whether the kaijus of "Pacific Rim" will ever meet with Godzilla or King Kong.

By now, it is already known that Godzilla and Kong will meet face to face in the future. Legendary set up their encounter with 2014's "Godzilla" and this year's "Kong: Skull Island," making a "MonsterVerse" (Monster Universe) of their own. A "Godzilla" sequel, "Godzilla: King of the Monsters," will hit theaters in 2019; this will be finally followed by "Godzilla vs. Kong."

However, Legendary also has kaijus under their belt with "Pacific Rim" and its upcoming sequel, "Pacific Rim: Uprising." So, fans naturally want to see all the monsters fight or team up against the jaegers. Fortunately, it looks like "Pacific Rim: Uprising" director Steven S. DeKnight is here to bring some good news.

"I won't say there's an Easter Egg but there's been a lot of discussion about that possibility [of crossing over]," DeKnight told Collider. "Look I think it would be fantastic to have the 'Pacific Rim' universe join Legendary's Monster Universe, it seems like a natural step. And part of the big overall plan after the third movie we've talked about is that could happen, it's always a possibility. It's by far not a certainty; it's merely theoretical at this point, but as a fan myself I would love to see that happen."

While DeKnight stressed that there are no concrete plans to have a crossover yet, fans are nevertheless excited about the very idea of all the monsters coming together on the silver screen.

"Pacific Rim: Uprising" will follow Jake (John Boyega), the son of Idris Elba's Stacker Pentecost, as he takes on kaijus with the help of jaegers. As previously reported, the kaijus have become smarter, and it will be more difficult to defeat them this time around.
