'Pacific Rim: Uprising' Plot News, Release Date: New Trailer Teases More 'Evolved' Kaiju, Improved Jaegers

The first official trailer for "Pacific Rim: Uprising" has been released, and fans are excited to see some Jaegers and Kaijus fight.

The trailer features a lot of action and chaos. The Kaijus are back and are stronger than ever. The first film saw the breach being closed, which supposedly stopped the Kaijus from wreaking havoc on Earth. However, as Dr. Newton Geiszler (Charlie Day) points out in the trailer, they have evolved.

"The Kaiju have found a new way," revealed John Boyega, who plays protagonist Jake Pentecost, to Entertainment Weekly. "They are way more intelligent than we thought they were. The monsters you saw in the first movie were the test run, to see how the planet would hold up. The breach we thought was closed is not their only way into our world. Their plans are more specific. Jake leads the team in trying to build up a new defense against that."

The Kaijus will be smarter and bigger than ever before. One such giant was previewed in the trailer. Four Jaegers had to team up to fight the massive creature.

Boyega's character is the son of Stacker Pentecost, played by Idris Elba in the 2013 film. As fans may recall, Stacker sacrificed himself to close the breach and save the world. Jake, on the other hand, left the Jaeger program because he felt he was not enough for his father. He then turned to a life of crime, selling stolen goods in the black market.

Jake's friendship with Scott Eastwood's Lambert will also be an essential part of the story. They were once close, but they drifted apart after Jake ran away. The two will be co-piloting the new Gipsy Avenger, which was glimpsed in the new trailer.

"The new Gipsy has LCD screens and holographic imagery of what is going outside. Her gravity sling has improved," Boyega previewed. These new features were briefly shown in the trailer as well.

"Pacific Rim: Uprising" will premiere in U.S. cinemas on March 23, 2018.
