'Paddington 2' Release Date, News: Trailer Features Magician Villain Hugh Grant Who Lands Friendly Bear in Jail

Studio Canal has recently unveiled the first official film trailer for the sequel "Paddington 2" that features Hugh Grant as the main villain who has some magical abilities and will land the protagonist, the friendly bear named Paddington (voiced by Ben Whishaw), in jail.

The focal point of the sequel's story is Paddington's extreme efforts to raise money to buy an antique pop-up book of London for his Aunt Lucy (Imelda Staunton).

As Paddington says in the trailer, Aunt Lucy's biggest dream is to go to London. But since it might take a lot to accomplish that, for now, Paddington decides that he will take all the jobs that he can to save money and get the pop-up book.

Paddington is determined to get the book for his aunt because as he says in the video teaser: "If she saw this, it would be like she was finally here."

The trailer then transformed into a scene taken literally from the pages of the pop-up book where Paddington imagines meeting Aunt Lucy in the port of London.

Paddington adorably takes all the odd jobs he can get, like cleaning windows but fails miserably while doing it.

However, things start to take a turn for the worse when Paddington meets a formerly famous actor named Phoenix Buchanan, played by Grant, who thinks he still has the same status he once enjoyed. The two meet while Phoenix performs in a carnival where he tries to convince people he is yet the same famous star.

Unfortunately for Phoenix, he invites Paddington on stage who will dismiss his claims and remind him that he is just doing dog food commercials now.

Phoenix becomes Paddington's adversary completely when the former learns that the London pop-up book can be sold for a great amount of money.

One night, Paddington catches Phoenix stealing the book from the antique shop. He immediately calls for the police but the latter suddenly performs a disappearing trick leaving the bear for the authorities to find. Paddington will then be accused of stealing and is later on sent to jail.

The trailer also revealed that "Paddington 2" will premiere in the United Kingdom on Nov. 10. It will then debut in U.S. movie theaters on Jan. 12, 2018.
