Parents Name Daughter 'Hashtag' After Twitter App
A baby girl has reportedly been named Hashtag after her parents' love of the social media site Twitter. It's the first time a child has been named after a Twitter feature, though there is a baby girl in Egypt named Facebook.
While the parents' first names are still unknown, a photo posted on Facebook under the Jameson family account shows a newborn baby girl with the caption: "Hashtag Jameson was born at 10 oclock last nite. She weys [sic] 8pounds and i luv her so much!!!!"
Reports have not verified whether Hashtag is the baby's legal name or just a nickname, but either way, it is part of a new trend. Last year an Egyptian family named their newborn son Facebook in homage to the popular website.

Baby names have been branching out into technological realm with increasing frequency, perhaps in order to keep up with the latest developments and as a reminder of the things we use today. For example, the Egyptian man who named his girl Facebook wanted to do so in honor of the site, which helped lead to the ousting of President Hosni Mubarak.
Facebook is taken, as is a version of the Facebook's "Like" button.
"Lior and Vardit Adler were apparently looking to call their child something unique so they stumped for the Facebook moniker to enable their child to stand out from the crowd," according to Daily Mail.
Parents are looking for new and unique ways to make their child to stand out, and names are an important factor. Gwyneth Paltrow helped lead the way in recent years by naming her daughter Apple, but celebrities especially have chosen to give their offspring unusual names.
Nicole Richie and Joel Madden named their daughter Harlow Winter Kate, while Poet Sienna Rose was the name of choice for Soleil Moon Frye and Jason Goldberg. Chef Jamie Oliver and his wife Jools named their children Poppy Honey, Daisy Boo, and Petal Blossom Rainbow.
It will be interesting to see what other names become popular as technology and trends develop.
