Parks and Recreation on NBC Loses 2 Stars: Rob Lowe and Rashida Jones Leaving
"Parks and Recreation," the NBC comedy that is approaching its sixth season, will be losing two of the show's stars, Rob Lowe and Rashida Jones. The two actors will be departing midway through the show's next season.
The "Parks and Recreation" stars play Chris Traeger and Ann Perkins, who were previously involved romantically but by the end of season 5, are looking to having a child together. The news was confirmed by producer for the show Mike Schur.
"Heading into this year, with the two of them contemplating parenthood, it felt like the natural time to move them into the next phase," he emailed Buzzfeed. Rob Lowe responded to the news on Twitter Wednesday.
"Thanks @KenTremendous It has literally been a world class pleasure. I'm sure Chris will take great care of… Ann Perkins!!" he posted, using the character's trademark phrases.
The show began being led by Amy Poehler, Nick Offerman, Aubrey Plaza, Rashida Jones and Aziz Ansari, but Lowe joined the show in Season 2. Both Jones and Lowe will leave after the 13th episode together.
Jones will continue in television, as she and Will McCormack already have a deal with Warner Bros. to write and produce comedy and drama shows for the network.
Lowe will also star in "Killing Kennedy" and "Behind the Candelabra," and other fans believe he will return to television acting soon enough. Lowe has also left other shows before they completed their run, like "The West Wing" and "Brothers and Sisters" after four seasons.
The next season of "Parks and Recreation" will premiere Sept. 26.
