Pat Healy of UFC Suspended and Fined $130,000 for Failing Drug Test
UFC Strikeforce lightweight Pat Healy has just lost his UFC title shot and $130,000 by testing positive for marijuana in a drug test.
Healy had recently won a match against Jim Miller at UFC 159, but it has been changed to a no contest and he was suspended for 90 days.
UFC president Dana White will be taking $65,000 of the fine and giving it to the other winner of the night, Bryan Caraway. MMA Junkie interviewed Caraway about the whole fiasco.
"All I've got to say is that's some expensive weed. I like Healy a lot. I came up through the fighting ranks with him. We used to train together at Team Quest. I love the guy. But I have absolutely zero remorse or guilt," he said.
"I hate weed. I cannot stand it. I've never tried it. I've never smoked a drug in my life. So I have absolutely zero tolerance for people that do it. I don't care if it's legal in some places or not. I think it's absolutely ridiculous. Whether it's legal in real life or not, they tell you to follow the rules. You need to follow the rules," the MMA fighter continued.
Healy took to his Twitter to make his first public statement.
"@BamBamHealy Thanks everyone for their support, made a huge mistake and gotta pay for it," he wrote on Twitter.
The 29-year-old's career record is 29-16-1.
