Paul Pelosi's accused attacker David DePape: 4 things to know
1. Was Speaker Pelosi the intended target?
The criminal complaint against DePape, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, revealed that the suspect said he broke into the residence to speak to “Nancy,” according to SFPD officers. During the interview with police, DePape reportedly said he wanted to hold the speaker hostage and speak with her.
“If Nancy were to tell DePape the ‘truth,’ he would ‘let her go’ and if she ‘lied,’ he was going to break ‘her kneecaps,’” the complaint stated. “DePape was certain that Nancy would not have told the ‘truth.’ During the interview, DePape articulated that he viewed Nancy as the ‘leader of the pack’ of lies told by the Democratic Party. DePape also later explained that by breaking Nancy’s kneecaps, she would then have to be wheeled into Congress, which would show other members of Congress there were consequences to actions.”
