PCUSA Approves Quarter Million Dollars in Mission Grants
The General Assembly Council approved $269,811 for migrant ministry, ministering to the disabled, and maintaining a home for the aging, in 43 regional and local church bodies across the nation
The General Assembly Council (GAC) of the Presbyterian Church USA (PCUSA) approved a quarter million budget to support missions programs in 43 churches across the nation, during the councils meeting in Louisville, KY., on Sept 25, 2004.
In total, the GAC approved $269,811 for migrant ministry, ministering to the disabled, and maintaining a home for the aging; the funds are taken from the funds donated to the Assembly for specific PC(USA) mission use within the United States and Puerto Rico.
I think there are two things about it, said Manley Olson, chair of the Restricted Funds Oversight Subcommittee, which made the recommendations. One is, it represents the result of a lot of good loyal Presbyterians giving money to the church to form the basis of it. And secondly, that there are a lot of needs out there.
According to the PCUSA, the grants, which are distributed yearly, began in 1997 upon the approval of the 209th general assembly; the grants are given to congregations, presbyteries, synods and General Assembly entities.
