'Peaky Blinders' Showrunner Hints Cillian Murphy Starrer Might Extend After Season 5
It doesn't look like "Peaky Blinders" will fold after season 5 despite earlier announced. Showrunner and creator Steven Knight hints the Cillian Murphy-led series could extend beyond the original five-season plan.
Knight have long asserted "Peaky Blinders" will air for five seasons. The fourth season will premiere on Nov. 15, but the showrunner realized viewers still want more from the story of the Shelby family.
"The thought has long been to finish after Season 5, but the momentum and love for the thing seems to still be growing exponentially," Knight told Deadline. "This is making us pause before deciding finally."
Murphy (Tommy Shelby) has no qualms about doing more "Peaky Blinders." He also told Deadline he believes in Knight and his ideas for the show.
Rumors are also rife that Knight might be planning to bring "Peaky Blinders" on the big screen. The show might also get a musical treatment but Knight won't explicitly confirm if these rumors are indeed in development. Murphy, however, commented he won't be joining the musical because it's not the right project for him.
Meanwhile, Tom Hardy (Alfie Solomons) has a big part in the fourth season of "Peaky Blinders." The Shelby brothers frenemy will have a tough challenge to face and it remains to be seen if he can count on Tommy knowing Alfie double-crossed him far too many times.
Speculations are that Alfie might die in season 4. Will Knight risk killing off a character that has kept viewers intrigued? Perhaps it's why "Peaky Blinders" season 4 will introduce Adrien Brody's character, a scion of a mafia family from New York who's out to avenge his father's death. The Oscar-winning actor's character has plenty of parallels with Murphy's Tommy.
"Game of Thrones" villain Aidan Gillen will also be in the fourth season as Aberama Gold. He's playing another bad guy who could spell danger for the Tommy and his gangster family.
"Peaky Blinders" season 4 will premiere on Wednesday, Nov. 15, at 9:00 p.m. on BBC Two. The show will also stream on Netflix for viewers outside U.K.
