'Penny Dreadful' Season 3 Spoilers, Plot Rumors: Dr. Jekyll To Emerge In New Season; Dracula Also To Appear?
In the new image from the upcoming Season 3 of the British-American horror drama series "Penny Dreadful," Vanessa Ives (Eva Green) is seen wearing a straitjacket inside a padded room, her head on a woman's lap. The woman is Tony Award-winning actress Patti LuPone, who appeared in Season 2 as the Cut-Wife. She will be joining the cast as a series regular in Season 3, taking on the role of Dr. Seward, a therapist who will help Vanessa battle "the evil forces she cannot seem to escape."
The introduction of Dr. Seward has created buzz amongst fans, some of whom have pointed out that the doctor is a character from the 1897 Bram Stoker novel "Dracula." In the novel, Dr. Seward is the administrator of an insane asylum near Count Dracula's home.
According to the Showtime press release for the third season of "Penny Dreadful," fans of the show will be treated to a motley of new and returning cast members in Season 3. Apart from LuPone, joining the cast as another series regular is Wes Studi ("A Million Ways to Die in The West"), who will star as Kaetenay, a mysterious Native American who will become allied with Sir Malcolm Murray (Timothy Dalton) and has a "deep connection" to Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett). Returning guest stars include Simon Russell Beale (Ferdinand Lyle) and Sarah Greene (Hecate Poole).
Joining them are new guest stars Sam Barnett ("Jupiter Ascending") as Dr. Seward's secretary; Screen Actors Guild Award nominee Christian Camargo ("The Hurt Locker") as Dr. Alexander Sweet; Jessica Barden ("The Outcast") as Justine; and Perdita Weeks ("The Tudors") as Catriona Hartdegan, a supernatural studies expert. Shazad Latif ("The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel") also joins the cast as Dr. Henry Jekyll.
Nine new episodes have been ordered for "Penny Dreadful" Season 3, which premieres on-air, online, and on demand in 2016. No official release date has been announced.
