'Percy Jackson 3' Release Date, Rumors Update: Author Rick Riordan Answers Questions Regarding Film Adaptations
Rick Riordan, the author of the "Percy Jackson" series, is called on every now and then to comment on the latest news on the movie adaptations of his series. In fact, he has dedicated a whole section on his site's "frequently asked questions" page on the topic.
As a FAQ page, it answers questions that would often come up. One of those frequent queries, of course, is the possibility of a new "Percy Jackson" movie. Will a third film ever finally complete a "Percy Jackson" trilogy?
To fans that have a question or comment about either one of "Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief," "Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters," or even a possible, theoretical "Percy Jackson: The Titan's Curse," here's what Riordan has to say: "Sorry, that's not my department," he began in his answer.
He continues to say that the only thing he can tell anxious fans is that the movies are based on his books. He does not co-write the script or help the production team make the movie in any way, much less contribute to decisions to start making one in the first place.
"I didn't even see it," he said, referring to "The Lightning Thief." Does this mean he has zero interest in the movies at all? He explains that he did not want the movies to change the way he envisions his characters or setting.
Besides, "Fox doesn't consult me on such things. It is entirely their call," he added, dusting his hands off the matter.
"When an author sells the rights to a book, typically full creative control goes to the movie studio and director — in this case, Fox 2000 and Chris Columbus," he added later, in case anyone wonders if he has any control over a "Percy Jackson" movie, past or future.
Logan Lerman, who played Percy Jackson in both films of the young adult series, did try to put a lid on expectations of a third movie in his earlier interview with MTV. "It's not happening," Lerman simply said.
Meanwhile, fans can look back, through the video below, on those great times when 20th Century Fox was still turning out "Percy Jackson" movies.
