Perry Calls Romney's Illegal Immigration Stance 'Height of Hypocrisy'
Republican presidential candidates Governor Rick Perry and Governor Mitt Romney exchanged heated blows regarding each other’s positions on illegal immigration at Tuesday night’s debate in Las Vegas.
Perry called Romney’s stance on immigration “the height of hypocrisy.” After Romney claimed not to know where Perry had retrieved this information, the Texas governor stated, “Mitt, you lose all of your standing from my perspective because you hired illegals in your home and you knew about it for a year.”
Perry was referring to an article published by the Boston Globe in 2006 that reported that the Massachusetts governor had hired a gardening firm that had employed illegal immigrants.

Romney retorted that once he knew about the illegal immigrants working for the gardening company, he fired the company. According to The Boston Globe, Romney was still using the company a year later.
As Perry went on to speak over Romney during Romney’s allotted response time, the Massachusetts governor informed the Texas governor, “You have a problem with allowing someone to finish speaking.”
“If you want to become President of the United States, you got to let both people speak,” said Romney.
Romney accused Perry of enticing illegal immigrants to immigrate to Texas by granting their children the right to pay in-state tuition at colleges and universities in Texas.
Perry defended his stance against illegal immigration, telling Romney, “You stood here in front of the American people and did not tell the truth that you had illegals working on your property. The idea that you can sit here and talk about any of us having an immigration issue is beyond me. I've always been against amnesty. You, on the other hand, were for amnesty.”
