Perry Noble Talks About Spiritual Warfare, Ghosts, and Demons
South Carolina megachurch pastor Perry Noble kicked off his new "Angels and Demons" series this past Sunday, discussing what spiritual warfare looks like as well as the intriguing topic of ghosts and demons.
"Spiritual warfare looks like selfishness…it's the fight between good and evil in the world," said Noble of NewSpring Church. "It's real popular to say in our country that we can't call some things bad. But I think we can," he added.
The "Angels and Demons" series will be delivered over the course of five weeks, during which time Noble hopes that listeners can be empowered to face evil instead of fear it.
During the sermon, Noble compared the similarity of being involved in a physical altercation to that of battling in the spiritual realm. He used a humorous anecdote about bumping into an MMA fighter on a flight to Las Vegas. "It's the same thing. You have to know your opponent," he said. "I was quick to say sorry and offered to carry his luggage," he noted.
But what does this have to do with spiritual warfare?
According to Noble, the world lives in constant war, and a spiritual battle that can't be fought without knowing how to fight it.
NewSpring Creative Arts Pastor Shane Duffey shared with The Christian Post, "Some may simply be unaware that spiritual warfare is a reality. So our intention is to raise awareness to what spiritual warfare really is, what our weapons are to fight it, and how as believers we can walk in victory no matter what struggles we face."
After the sermon, church attendees took to Twitter using the hashtag #angelsdemons to tweet about the series on Sunday. While some reiterated Pastor Noble's points, others admitted to learning about the topic for the first time.
"It's been very positive and we're hearing that it's helpful," said Duffey, regarding the feedback they have received. "Our church is currently memorizing various scripture passages together and we're reading through devotionals about how to fight against the devil."
Additionally, Noble answered questions on the existence of ghosts, the importance of caring about spiritual warfare and offered tips on how to overcome when battling.
"Demons can manifest as ghosts or as anything they want, so that wasn't your grandma you saw," Noble said, which caused the audience to laugh. He also emphasized that submission and scripture are the only way to be victorious in the fight against the enemy.
"There is a devil who wants to destroy your life. A roaring lion looking for someone to devour," he said.
Next week, the series will continue addressing additional questions, and on Father's Day, Noble will discuss the spiritual attack on the role of fathers. Finally, the series will conclude with a focus on two of Satan's weapons and how to fight them.
