Philadelphia Eagles Roster, Injury News 2017: Safety Chris Maragos May Have a Torn PCL
Philadelphia Eagles special teams standout Chris Maragos may have to miss some games this season due to a knee injury.
According to the Philadelphia Daily News' Marcus Hayes, the Eagles believed that Maragos has a torn posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) in his knee, and he was supposed to undergo a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) exam last Friday to determine the extent of the injury.
The team has yet to divulge the result of the scan, but the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) appears unaffected.
"The outlook with Maragos and his knee injury is not yet completely clear, but there is optimism that he'll be back before too long," Dave Spadaro said on the Eagles' official website.
Maragos went down with the injury in the fourth quarter of their 28-23 victory over the Carolina Panthers last Thursday while he was trying to run down Christian McCaffrey on a punt return and he had to be helped off the field.
The backup safety could miss a significant amount of time with the knee injury. NBC Sports Philly's Derrick Gunn has even speculated that he might be done for the year.
Maragos is a key member of the Eagles' special teams unit, but he also started a game at strong safety this season when Rodney McLeod was dealing with a hamstring injury. It was the third start of his career.
Meanwhile, running back Wendell Smallwood is inching closer to a return to the field.
"Wendell's doing really good. He's close. I'll tell you, he's close. Then on Tuesday, when the players are in the building we'll see. He's got some time now to rest," Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said on Friday, via the Eagles Wire.
"But I would anticipate him maybe doing a little something next week in practice, but not 100% yet with him," he added.
