Phillip Phillips Surgery Urgent, Fought Sickness 'This Whole Show' (VIDEO)
Modesty is not the only thing preventing "American Idol" winner Phillip Phillips from becoming a star as other, more serious roadblocks lie ahead of the Georgia singer.
It has been reported the Phillips will be heading into surgery within the next couple of weeks. It has not been made clear what the nature of the surgery will be- possibly kindey issues, which he reported previously- but it is necessary, as Phillips has been putting off surgery for months.
"I've been sick this whole show. I'm trying to get all my work done, to recover," Phillips admitted on the Kelly Ripa show, after revealing that he had only gotten "about two and a half hours of sleep" the night before.
The hometown visits allowed Phillips' family doctor to get a better look at the situation, and according to TMZ, his feedback was not positive.
"Multiple 'Idol' sources tell us ... when Phillip went back home to Georgia last Saturday ... his family doctor spent almost the entire stay by his side and was alarmed by what he saw -- Phillip wasn't eating and looked horrible," TMZ reported.
Despite having surgery mid-season, the site also reported that Phillips only received a temporary fix and further surgery would be required in order for him to get better.
"Phillip suffers from severe kidney problems and at the beginning of the competition it got so bad he had a stent put in as a temporary fix until he could have surgery," TMZ reported. "But the condition has worsened and Phillip's doc told him he needed surgery now. Phillip said he was not going to drop out of the show so the doctor told him he ABSOLUTELY had to go under the knife immediately after the finale."
Now that Phillips has been crowned the winner, surgery is exactly what he intends to work on first.
"Yes, I'll be having it here soon. I'm getting prepared for all that. I'm ready to feel better, feel like myself," Phillips told Ripa. "It's been tough."
