The ‘United We Stand’ Rally began its 14-city Illinois statewide tour in Chicago on Oct. 16. A group of around 100 people supported the rally’s call for a constitutional amendment defining marriage between one man and one woman, thereby banning same-sex marriage. Rally speakers included Alan Keyes, a Republican Senatorial candidate for Illinois; Kathy Valente, State Director of Concerned Women for America of Illinois, which is one of the rally’s co-sponsors; and Linda Jergenson, a former lesbian. A group of protesters held signs in support of marriage for homosexuals across the street from the rally. The rally will conclude on Oct. 22.
