'Pirates of the Caribbean 5' to Be A Soft Reboot? Rumored Shortlist of Leading Ladies Revealed
"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" has yet to start production but rumors are already circulating claiming that the fifth film in the franchise is going to end up as a reboot of the film.
The news reportedly came from film alum Orlando Bloom, who played Will Turner in the original trilogy of the franchise. The actor, who was promoting "The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies" at the time, spoke with IGN and mentioned that he was in talks with Disney about the possibility of returning to the film but said he wasn't signing up just yet.
"I'm not entirely sure that I'll be back," he said. "They went to reboot the whole franchise, I think."
Bloom's mentioned that his return might mean that Disney was thinking of taking the story back to his character Will's relationship with his son following his becoming Davey Jones and ruling the seas.
"I'm down the bottom of the ocean, because I won't look anything like me. Get all gnarly," Bloom said.
While Disney is eyeing Bloom's return, they are also busy looking for the female lead that will join the film.
A shortlist has circulated online claiming that several young actresses are being tried for the role, such as Kaya Scodelario from the "Maze Runner," Alexandra Dowling from "The Musketeers," Jenna Thiam from French drama "The Returned," Gabriella Wilde from "Endless Love" and Lucy Boynton from "Miss Potter."
The actress that nabs the role will be playing the love interest of Brenton Thwaites, known for "Maleficent," will be playing a British soldier. It was reported that executives wanted to be sure Thwaites was onboard before doing chemistry tests with the actresses.
Thwaites and his leading lady will be joining Javier Bardem, who will be playing an as of yet unnamed villain, and retuning cast member Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow.
"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" is set to hit theaters on July 7, 2017.
