Pitbull Walmart Contest Exiles Rapper to Icy North?

Hip hop entertainer Pitbull could be bringing the heat north to Alaska after a new internet campaign.

Pitbull, whose real name is Armando Christian Perez, is the subject of a new marketing deal between Wal-Mart and the rapper which will host him at one of the hundreds of Wal-Mart stores around the globe. The Wal-Mart store that gets the most "Likes" on Facebook wins the chance to have a party attended by the reggaeton singer.

The store with the most likes on Facebook so far is the one located in Kodiak, Alaska. The store currently has more than 60,000 "Likes" on the social networking site, which is about 10 times the current population, according to 2010 census figures.

The reason that it seems Pitbull will be able to visit Alaska for the first time is due to the fact that a writer with the Boston Phoenix Newspaper thought it would be a good idea if he could get people to send Pitbull to the most remote Wal-Mart on Earth.

Time has not run out for those still wanting to participate in the campaign. Wal-Mart spokeswoman Sarah Spencer said other Wal-Mart shoppers have until July 16 to "like" their local stores for a chance to have Pitbull at their stores.

"I know Pitbull is hoping his Miami Wal-Mart shoppers start 'liking' their Facebook page," she said.

That might require a miracle given that the Miami Wal-Mart currently has under a thousand "Likes."

"He's definitely coming to Kodiak if Kodiak wins," Spencer said.

Pitbull, who is touring Europe, seems to be taking the contest in stride.

"Wherever the fans want to have a party, I will be there," he said in an emailed statement.

Kodiak Island is about 225 miles southwest of Anchorage and is home to the nation's largest Coast Guard base. The island is also known for the Kodiak brown bear.
