'Pitch Perfect 2' Release Date, Rumors: Rival Acapella Groups Revealed, Sequel to Have Bigger Musical Numbers
The success of the 2012 smash hit movie, 'Pitch Perfect' was a surprise for the cast and crew of the film, as it was reported that the movie was shot with a relatively modest budget and the story line was an unconventional yet light-hearted take on the world of competitive acapella singing.
Since 'Pitch Perfect 2' was announced, there have been lots of speculation regarding the movie's plot and leaks and spoilers have constantly been coming out.
Executive producer and director Elizabeth Banks is keeping mum about the plot, but she hinted that the new film will revolve around the Barden Bellas' senior year. She also mentioned that they seemed to have forgotten about the music a little bit and "have gotten too big for their breeches…literally."
Moreover, Ben Platt, who plays the role of Benji Applebaum, said in a recent interview with Teen Vogue that because of the sequel's bigger budget, audiences can expect to see more extravagant musical numbers this time around.
Recently, rumors that an international acapella competition could be in the works for the Bellas have been circulating since it was announced that two acapella groups have been cast as rival groups.
In June, Entertainment Weekly revealed that Pentatonix was joining the cast, and in July, The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that the all-Filipino group The Filharmonic will be appearing in the film as well. Danish actress Birgitte Hjort Sorensen and German Youtube sensation Flula Borg have also signed on for the film.
It was reported that original cast members Anna Kendrick, Rebel Wilson, Brittany Snow, Skylar Astin, Ben Platt and Adam Devine will be in the sequel. The Barden Bellas will also have a new member, Academy Award nominee Hailee Steinfeld.
'Pitch Perfect 2' will premiere on March 15, 2015.
