Pittsburgh Fight at 'Dark Knight Rises' Reveals Terror Spread Across The Nation
A Pittsburgh crowd was unnerved on Sunday night when a fight broke out in the theater prompting fears of a worst-case scenario.
Following the Friday morning massacre that led to a number of deaths and injuries during a screening of "The Dark Knight Rises," a number of people reported being somewhat intimidated about going out to the movies to watch the film. That situation wasn't helped Sunday night, when a fight broke out in PPittsburgh during another screening of "The Dark Knight Rises."
The argument broke out at AMC Loews Waterfront 22 in West Homestead, causing chaos when a number of people attempted to flee the theater in a panic likely due to already unsettled nerves.
"There were two people who got into an argument, and one person yelled something that induced people to get into a panic," Colin Marks, 25, told the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
The stampede that ensued caused some to get trampled upon, according to one witness who was at the theater.
"It was scary. People were screaming. Everyone was running, kind of pushing each other," an unidentified witness told the WXPI television station. "People were dropping things. Everyone was getting down. It was definitely chaotic. Everyone's heart was racing."
While no information was given about what began the initial argument, police arrived on the scene with dogs, although no one was arrested. Two people were reported injured.
Some fear that such fits of terror will likely spread across the nation if people are not careful.
"The technique of terror is to scare people to death even when there is no danger at all," MCJNY1 wrote on the Daily News blog. "Causing them to panic and hurt each other for no reason other than being afraid.
"Get your legs back under you and try to relax," the user suggested.
Hempstead Police Chief Jeffrey DeSimone told the Gazette that shaken nerves following such a tragic event are common.
"It happened before and it will probably happen again," he said. "Unfortunately, that's just the world we live in."
