Furthermore, this Eastern Conference battle has proven to be close as in the first two games between the two teams, one needed overtime to determine a winner, while the other game was won only with a one-point lead after 60 minutes.

In a very anticipated battle between the two, Game 1 delivered so much action and drama.

Washington opened up the scoring in the first period after assists from Jason Chimera and John Carlson led to a goal from Andre Burakovsky at the 10:13 mark.

However, around the same time in the second period, the Penguins levelled the score through a goal from Ben Lovejoy thanks to assists from Nick Bonino and Carl Hagelin.

Less than a minute later, the momentum shifted towards the Penguins as Evgeni Malkin scored to give Pittsburgh the lead.

Drama continued less than 40 seconds later as TJ Oshie scored to tie the game at 2-2.

In the third period, Oshie could not be stopped as he scored another goal after linking up with Alex Ovechkin to give the Caps a 3-2 lead. But it would eventually be erased by a Bonino goal at the 8:42 mark.

In the overtime, it was Oshie who made the difference as he completed his hat trick at the 9:33 mark with his second unassisted goal of the night to give the Caps the 1-0 series lead.

Looking to get that loss back, the Penguins came in strong in the second game and Hagelin gave them the lead after scoring the game's first goal at the 7:08 mark of the second period.

Marcus Johansson bounced back with a power play goal to tie the game in the third period, but Eric Fehr scored late in the game to give them the 2-1 lead and they would hold on to tie the series at 1-1.
