The Cardinals will be delighted to have made it to Game 5, with rookie Michael Wacha putting in an amazing performance in Game 4 to help St Louis level the series at 2-2. They will have their tails up today and will hope they can carry momentum into this game to complete the dramatic turn around and snatch the series win away from the Pirates.

For the Cardinals tonight, Adam Wainwright will take the mound. The 32-year-old is very much the veteran in the team's young rotation and St Louis will be hoping that his experience can help the team get through a tense battle tonight.

Wainwright of course pitched Game 1 of this series, and did very well to hold the Pirates to just one run on three hits over the seven innings he featured. In that game he also struck out nine Pittsburgh batters. Pedro Alvarez was the only player to cause any kind of damage, hitting a solo home run off Wainwright. Through the regular season, Wainwright had a 2.94 ERA over 34 starts, and he led the league in innings pitched.

Meanwhile, rookie Gerrit Cole will take the mound for the Pirates. The 22 year old pitched six innings of two-hit ball in Game 2, striking out five and allowing Yadier Molina to score on a home run. Through the regular season he started 19 times and recorded a 3.22 ERA.
