Pittsburgh Steelers Roster and Injury News: Bell Out for the Year with MCL Tear

It looks like the season for the Pittsburgh Steelers is getting more and more difficult in terms of dealing with injuries, apart from the fact that the team is struggling with a 4-4 record, good for second place in the obviously weak AFC Northern Division. Surely, luck was not on their side on Sunday when running back Le'Veon Bell got injured and is reportedly out for the season.

This actually is the fourth instance since four months ago that the Steelers have lost a key offensive player, having previously dealt with the loss of center Maurkice Pouncey, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, and left tackle Kelvin Beachum.

Pouncey went down with an ankle injury in the preseason, Roethlisberger suffered a knee injury, and Beachum is out for the season with another major knee injury. The news of Bell's injury is devastating for a team that is struggling to stay above .500 this early in the season.

The 23-year-old Bell got the injury during the game against the Bengals, where the Steelers lost, 16-10. After catching a pass from Roethlisberger, he twisted his knee right after Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict tackled him. The injury also means that D'Angelo Williams will have to play an important role in the back field. In the six games where Bell played this season, he produced 556 rushing yards on 113 carries, along with three touchdowns and 24 receptions.

Steelers Sign Pead

In order to make up for the loss of their star running back, the team decided to sign free agent Isaiah Pead to at least have someone take over the spot as they hope to reach the playoffs. Pittsburgh is currently 3 ½ games behind the Bengals and are essentially out of playoff position in the AFC, at least for now. If they continue to play awful, the hope of winning the division title may be far out of reach this time in the season.
