Pittsburgh Steelers Wide Receiver Martavis Bryant Benched for Sunday's Game Against the Detroit Lions
Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Martavis Bryant is clearly unhappy with his role in the offense this season.
Bryant didn't throw a temper tantrum on the sideline like five-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Antonio Brown did earlier this month, but what he did was just as bad or even worse, and he's going to pay for it.
Days after word got out that he requested a trade earlier this season, Bryant took to social media to criticize wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster and complain about the lack of touches in a since-deleted Instagram post. In another comment, the fourth-year heaped praise on his rookie teammate, but nobody was fooled.
To make matters worse, Bryant didn't show up at the mandatory team meetings on Monday because he was allegedly sick.
Well, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin wasn't going to let that slide and he said Bryant's recent comments were "out of bounds."
On Wednesday, Bryant would confirm that he has been benched for this Sunday's matchup against the Detroit Lions, but he said he's fine with it.
"I'm fine. I ain't tripping," Bryant said on Wednesday, via the Washington Post.
"If I'm not traded, I'm going to work my butt off here and whatever happens, happens. You're not going to hear me complain or nothing no more, I'm just going to be quiet and let everything fall in place," he continued.
"I feel like I'm better than every receiver or any receiver I played with. For (JuJu), he feels the same way. (Antonio Brown) feels the same way. Justin Hunter feels the same way. Everybody feel the same way," he added.
Bryant would go on to say that his relationship with Smith-Schuster was fine, but venting his frustrations in public was probably not a very good idea in the first place. Now he has become a distraction.
Will the Steelers move him before the trade deadline?
