PlayStation 4 Firmware 4.00 and 4.01 News and Updates: HDR Capability Now Supported? Other Features and Details Revealed
Gaming consoles are now more than just playing games that cater to the gamers. They now need to feature new technologies and innovations to properly compete in the field. Sony knows this fact, bringing only the latest updates to the PlayStation 4.
PlayStation 4 Update
Sony has indeed seen one of its most successful years in 2016. With the lucrative market reception of the PlayStation 4 Pro and PlayStation 4 Slim (now considered the new PlayStation 4), the company seems to be gliding smoothly through the competition. However, users of the original PlayStation 4 worries that their console has come to a time that the company no longer supports it.
Fans need not fret though, as Sony is still continuing to deliver updates to the PlayStation 4 to keep it relevant and competent. The gaming console is still very capable and its hardware features still match those of the newer models. However, where it lacks is in the software department.
This is why on September 13, Sony has rolled out an update for the PlayStation 4. This was the system software version 4.00. However, to keep the console even more fresh, Sony had just released a new firmware update.
Firmware 4.01 Features and Details
The PlayStation 4 Firmware 4.01 was released just weeks after its preceding update. It is no small patch either, as it brings new features to the gaming console. While the update version 4.00 brought a refreshed user interface and customer folders, the new firmware adds HDR support to the PlayStation 4.
The HDR, or High Dynamic Range, imaging technology will enable the reproduction of much darker and brighter images, while incorporating a much wider array of the color gamut. The firmware 4.01 also improves the overall system stability of the PlayStation 4.
Aside from the features mentioned, the PlayStation 4 Firmware 4.0.1 also improves the system quality performance. This new update is around 300MB in size. However, when performing a new PlayStation 4 installation, the total update file size clocks in at nearly 900MB.
HDR Advantages
Users who own a television or display set compatible with HDR can now fully take advantage of their hardware's features. This results to a more realistic and immersive visual and gaming experience when playing compatible games. The saturation, vividness, and overall exposure of every visual element will be closer to life with the new PlayStation 4 update.
As the main feature of the PlayStation 4 Firmware 4.01 is the HDR support, installing it may be optional. Gamers can go on with their gaming experience without installing the update. However, due to the stability and performance improvements, everyone is still advised to install the latest software.
