PlayStation 5, Xbox Two Release Date Predicted To Be 2019/2020, According to Analyst
Here's an update for console gamers. In three or four more years, an analyst predicts that Sony and Microsoft will be releasing their next-generation consoles, namely PlayStation 5 and Xbox Two.
Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter made the prediction during episode 9 of his "Pachter Factor" web series.
"I would be surprised if we had a next-gen console in 2018; we might have one in 2019, so I think 6 years is likely. We will have one by 2020, so I think seven years is a lock," he said (5:49 mark in video below). "So, lasting as long, probably not, but lasting longer than five years, probably so."
This means, the current-generation consoles PlayStation 4 and Xbox One have roughly a few more years before becoming obsolete. This brings the lifespan of current-generation consoles to about seven years. Add to this three more years, which is the typical period that last-generation consoles stick around when new ones are released, and PS4 and Xbox One get a total of 10 years for their life cycle.
Other analysts, however, have different opinions. Previous estimates have placed the upcoming consoles' release date in 2018. In the case of Pachter, he hasn't always been right — as is the case with analysts in general. Still, there are those who agree with his prediction like Value Walk and Segment Next. Which among these predictions prove to be true, only the companies and time will tell.
Rumors about the features possibly included in these next-generation consoles are also circulating online. One speculation says the PS5 and Xbox Two would surely come with some tie-in with virtual reality technology. For instance, PS5 could work with Sony's upcoming VR headset and this would offer gamers with a different experience than can be had with playing on consoles alone.
Sony and Microsoft have not announced any release date or window of their upcoming consoles yet.
