PlayStation Plus Free Games for September 2016 Rumors: Will 'Watch Dogs' Be Included? Price Increase Also Looming
PlayStation Plus subscription price increases in US and Canada, but once again includes AAA title games in September free game lineup.
PlayStation Plus price increase
Effective on September 22, PlayStation Plus membership fees would officially increase in the US and Canada regions for their three months and twelve months subscription plans. Since the gaming service was introduced in 2010, this would be the first price hike in the region.
The price for the three-month subscriptions would now be $24.99 in the US and $29.99 in Canada. Additionally, the year-long subscription would be priced at $59.99 in the American market and $69.99 for the Canadians. The monthly plan will also increase to $11.99 in Canada, while the US fee of $9.99 will remain untouched.
Sony, the company behind the successful gaming console and services, stated that the price increase was enacted to reflect current market conditions. They stated, however, that subscribers would still experience the same benefits. Also, those who would subscribe to PlayStation Plus before September 22 will not be affected by the price hike.
Services and game collection
The PlayStation Plus is a gaming service employed by Sony. It is a subscription-based PlayStation Network offering that provides its members with premium features. These include access to unreleased games, whether they be trial, preview or beta versions, store discounts, and the ability for software updates and patches be automatically downloaded to the console.
One of the pull factors of the PlayStation Plus is the Instant Game Collection service. This is a feature that gives players access to new games and are renewed monthly. Older games from prior months are then withdrawn from the collection, but subscribers can keep them as long as they are members of the service. In 2015, PlayStation Plus provided more than $1300 worth of games to their subscribers.
September free games
As the month of September is fast approaching, PlayStation Plus subscribers are looking forward to the new games to be added to their collection. Players usually long for games with AAA titles, hit games released by huge game developers. August saw disappointment to many users, as the free games came from independent developers.
Rumors point to the inclusion of Guerrilla Games' "Killzone Shadow Fall" and Ubisoft's "Watch Dogs" for the PlayStation 4. The first-person shooter "Killzone Shadow Fall" was released in 2013 and was the direct successor of "KIllzone 3." Released just two years ago, "Watch Dogs" is a free-to-roam campaign game in which players need to take down Chicago's fictional operating system.
The PlayStation 3 will likely get Ubisoft's action-adventure and racing game "Driver: San Francisco." PS Vita will then be getting "Batman 3: Beyond Gotham," as part of marketing for "The LEGO Batman Movie." They are also rumored to be getting "Axiom Verge," and "Daxter."
